Bright and bold

Windstream is an Arkansas-based telecommunications company that provides phone, high-speed Internet and digital television services. It also offers a range of IP voice and data services and phone systems and equipment to businesses and government agencies.

Challenges

The wireline business of Alltel Communications announced that it was merging with a small southwest wireline company Valor Telecom with the intention of establishing an independent, publicly traded company. The resultant ‘Newco’ would be $4.9 billion in revenue with 3.4 million customers in tier 2-3, mostly rural markets over 16 states.

Actions

Developed a connotative name suggestive of a dynamic company that fits naturally into the community by caring about its customers and their ability to get all they can from their communications provider.

Designed a bright, bold and youthful logotype as a rallying cry for current and future employees and to signal independence from Alltel.

Focused on green as a primary color, given its distinctiveness within the telecom sector and its ability to communicate freshness, growth, local grassroots focus and rural organic character.
