Sylvan Education Solutions was formed to partner with public, private and religious schools nationwide to provide publicly funded, high-quality tutoring and supplemental education for struggling students—as an extension of the well-known and highly regarded Sylvan Learning Center brand and method. While the Sylvan name is synonymous with quality K-12 tutoring and supplemental education, how would Sylvan Education Solutions distinguish this new offering?

Challenges

Create a new name for Sylvan Education Solutions to differentiate the organization from Sylvan Learning Center and its offerings

Design a logo to appeal to school district's, parents and school children alike

Visually express the company’s mission and brand essence

Actions

Performed an intensive analysis and audit phase by conducting executive and customers interviews and a comprehensive review of the education service provider’s communications and marketing materials

Translated the research findings into design criteria that directed the development and implementation of the new name and visual identity

Selected the name “Catapult Learning” from over 500+ Lippincott-generated names. The new name literally means to “launch forward” and evokes images of a longstanding and proven instructional system that provides students with opportunities to advance. It is also distinctive and flexible to allow for future expansion of services

Created a unique and memorable symbol to capture the essence of the new Catapult brand. The symbol, a child’s hand overlapping a red apple, symbolizes Catapult’s promise to partner with community organizations, school districts, students and parents to deliver engaging and effective educational solutions

Designed launch support materials including website and collateral
