Lippincott Designers Take In the “Bright Lights, Big City” of the AIGA Annual Gala
Mediabistro's blog UnBeige covered the 2012 AIGA Awards, co-chaired by Lippincott's Su Mathews. A large contingent of Lippincott colleagues joined designers from across the country to recognize this year's honorees and celebrate the night away at the "Bright Lights, Big City"-themed event. This year's gala channeled the spirit of the Beaux Arts Ball of 1931, inviting guests to design and create hats inspired by their favorite buildings.

Lippincott's Connie Birdsall served as a juror for the AIGA Kansas City Chapter's seventh annual awards, honoring local design talent for more than 90 works by area designers.
New Starbucks Logo Inspires Design Envy
AIGA's Design Envy blog gives high marks to the new Starbucks, hailing the joint efforts of Lippincott and the Starbucks internal creative team as a "broader, more dynamic identity system". By elevating the green Siren to standalone status, Starbucks has achieved a rebranding that is "huge" and "happening", accomplishing "a textbook example of how to manage a rollout".
Imprint Covers Su Mathews’ Presentation at AIGA’s Symbol Event
Graphic design web site Imprint covers the well-attended AIGA event for the release of Symbol. Aside from co-author Angus Hyland, the night's featured guests included such "A-List design stars" as Lippincott's Su Mathews waxing poetic about the most beloved and enduring from among the tome's 1300 symbols. Su's talk centered on research that’s shown that emotional reactions to corporate and religious symbols are controlled by the same area of the brain.
Su Mathews Speaks at AIGA’s Symbol/Masters Event
Lippincott’s Su Mathews spoke at an AIGA-sponsored event to honor the publication of Angus Hyland and Steven Bateman’s new book Symbol. Su was one of three “symbol masters” selected to present her thoughts on and favorites among the 1300 symbols featured in the book, including 11 of Lippincott’s own logos.

In her speech at the AIGA’s “Design (Re)Invents” conference in New York City, Mathews acknowledges that reinvention can be scary for brands. Her work, including the Walmart brand revitalization, factors in past branding decisions to help a company to move forward, while looking for the changes that promise the most impact.

AIGA Names Lippincott’s Connie Birdsall to National Board of Directors

Design and brand strategy consultancy Lippincott Mercer has announced that Senior Partner and Creative Director Connie Birdsall has been elected to the national board of directors of AIGA, the professional association for design. She previously served on the board of directors for AIGA’s New York chapter. Her term commenced on July 1, 2005 and will run through June 30, 2008.
